Around 25,000 residences in southeastern Queensland found themselves without power on the start of the week after intense storm systems swept through the state, producing powerful gusts reaching 109 kilometers per hour.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Extensive Impact

Residents witnessed large ice chunks reaching sizes of seven centimeters in some areas. Meteorological experts confirmed that different parts across Queensland had been affected by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were working to restore power throughout the damaged zones, with dozens of response units activated to handle the numerous electricity disruptions.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

Meanwhile, approximately one thousand energy customers in the southern state also experienced electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area recorded its most precipitation in 18 months.

Emergency response teams received 598 calls for help across the area, mainly for property damage but also for downed trees and flooding.

At the height on the previous day, in excess of 28k energy customers in the state were lacking electricity.

Weather Forecast

Moist weather were predicted to continue along much of eastern Queensland this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with continued storm activity predicted across multiple regions of both areas.

Medical Alert

Public health experts cautioned that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, especially given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This caution comes after previous incidents where comparable situations led to major medical consequences in the state.
